A wind advisory has been posted for the Big Island’s Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea summits until 6 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

The service forecast west winds of 35 mph to 45 mph with gusts topping 60 mph.

A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds of at least 30 mph or gusts of at least 50 mph are expected. The service cautioned that winds this strong can make driving in the area difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
